Hunting ghillie
suits require much preparation and consideration before buying. Depending
on your location, budget, and what you plan on hunting, there are many things
to consider before purchasing a hunting ghillie suit.
First
off, you need to check your state's laws on hunting, and if it requires you to
wear orange. If your state requires by law that you wear orange, you may want
to drop the idea of a ghillie suit altogether, and perhaps consider a blind or
tree stand. I know the state of Nevada is a very hassle-free place to go hunting.
There are some species of animal you can hunt here without a hunting license.
You also need to consider different animal species, and what their eyes are capable
of perceiving. Turkey have been known to be very aware of their surroundings,
and hunters have adapted to this by using ghillie suits and waiting for the turkey
to approach them.
Where you will be hunting in will greatly
affect what color ghillie suit you need to buy. If you are in a desert environment,
you will need a desert ghillie. If you're in a very green evironment, you will
need a more green woodland ghillie. There are also snow ghillie suits available
and more brown woodland ghillies.
You will also need to cover
your rifle in burlap as well, some people call these rifle wraps. If you are hunting
with a bow, you will need to cut certain areas around the arms to make it easier
to bring back the arrow. I know in Nevada that you can legally hunt coyote and
jack rabbit without a hunting license. Nevada also has many big game species like
mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, three sub-species of bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope,
and mountain goat. Nevadas big game hunts are done by a random draw process
and are available to anyone 12 years old or older. Applications are normally available
in mid-March and the application deadline is around mid-April. A second drawing
is done for remaining tags in June, and any tags after that draw can be applied
for on a first-come, first-served basis. Take a look at our ghillie
